Spanning over 250 hectares, with 100 forests and ultimately 100 gardens the Arboretum is one of the world’s largest living collections of rare, endangered and significant trees. The site is also home to the iconic Margaret Whitlam Pavilion, award-winning Village Centre with its onsite restaurant, café and gift shop, POD playground and the renowned National Bonsai and Penjing Collection.
Opened to the public in 2013, the Arboretum is celebrated for its conservation, science research, education, award-winning architecture and a network of multi-use trails.
Our mission is to continue to nurture a living collection of international significance. Building upon the successful progressive implementation of the National Arboretum’s master plan, the Arboretum will continue to develop with a focus on constant improvement.
We prioritise projects that make the site more accessible, improve the visitor experience, maintain and grow our living collection, activate the landscape through new activities and events, and, overall, provide more variety to the broader community.
